《深海奇观》是代表《神话世纪》自订剧情地图美工巅峰表现的作品，作者The Vandhaal 是在此领域世界知名的设计大师，而本作同时还是他赖以夺得2006 年AoM Heaven 美城设计大赛冠军的作品（https://aom.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=ct&f=13,24143,0,60）。随着高清扩展版本游戏面世，作者亦在 Steam 工作坊上发布了此剧情的对应更新版。

与其说是一个战役或剧情，《深海奇观》其实没有多少游戏内容，甚至没有正常途径可以取胜……它本身的目的就是让玩家游览地图的景色：潜藏于水底的海王之城！不过，作者仍然还是在剧情设置了一个彩蛋，那就是探索海面过程里玩家可以先后获得七个不同的谜底提示，再将答案输入游戏的话就能看到一段隐藏讯息。同时，它也是少数设有完全英文配音旁白的自订剧情。
