READ ME
Thank you for downloading Blood of the Bear, the revamp of the Second Krethárn War. The .cpx file consists of two scenarios, the Storm and Footsteps, one playable scenario and one cut-scene. I hope you enjoy playing them, and for any such reason you can contact me at Mashek@heavengames.com. Alternatively, I can just as easily be found at the forums of Age of Kings Heaven or at the Blacksmith, our downloads centre.
FILE PLACEMENT
All files in your WinZip file should go into your Age of Kings Directory:
- The campaign file (.cpx) goes into the Campaign folder.
- The sounds (.mp3) go into the Sounds/ Scenario folder.
- The Readme can go anywhere or stay in the .zip file.
SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS
To meet the full experience of this project, it is recommended that you have at least a 256/512 MB RAM in order for your computer to handle the scenarios included. In addition, there are just a few things to meet before playing the game:
Speed: Normal
Music volume: Off
Resolution: 1024 x 768
Difficulty Level (First scenario only): Standard, Moderate or Hard
Difficulty Level (Second scenario only): Moderate Difficulty
OTHER
- Quality headphones or speakers are highly recommended for full experience.
- The intended experience for scenario one, the storm, can be found on moderate difficulty, however it is recommended that all players begin with standard difficulty, before moving up to harder difficulties. Still, this is only a recommendation and the choice is entirely yours.
- For interest, try turning down the brightness level of your computer monitor to somewhere in between 65 and 70. The effect will create a slightly darker appeal, as opposed to the overtly bright effect a higher setting would have on Age of Kings.
DIFFICULTY
-Standard-
Recommended for players, while not necessarily new to fixed force scenarios, have some form of experience in this genre whereby sharp attention, quick thinking and good micromanagement of units is required for victory.
~ Heroes receive maximum Hit Points and Attack Points and one extra onager. The enemy force gains only +1 Attack Point.
-Moderate-
The intended experience for the Storm. Recommended for well-rounded players who have considerable skill in FF scenarios. While being considerably more difficult than standard, players will be put up to the test to battle strong enemy leaders and hording multitudes of enemy infantry bent on achieving victory.
~ Heroes lose their Attack Points previously attained on standard difficulty. Meanwhile, enemy leaders receive extended Hit Points and Attack Points, and all opposing enemy soldiers gain +2 Attack Points.
-Hard-
Recommended for veteran FF players who laugh at death even when it stares them straight in the eye. The player will be ferociously attacked, forced from his position and beaten back with no mercy.
~ Heroes receive less Hit Points and one less onager. Enemy leaders are awarded maximum Hit Points and Attack Points, and all opposing enemy soldiers gain +3 Attack Points.
CREDIT TO SOUND
(Note: Many sound files lack a source, either by laziness on the author’s behalf, or because I’ve simply forgotten where the sound file came from. For sound files extracted from various scores, please do not use these due to legal and/or originality reasons.)

UPDATES
(16/12/09) Version 1.1: Minor grammatical changes to text in History, Instructions and Victory screen. Bug fixed where scout was killed by enemy units still jammed in the western gateway after enemy route.
(20/12/09) Version 1.2: Numerous bugs occurring within fortress due to inadequate timing sequences moving enemy units around have mostly been improved, and the bug involving the engineer still remaining in the fort after the game has ended has also been fixed. A few other minor modifications, together with the inclusion of a “tips” file.
(23/12/09) Version 1.3: Standard difficulty significantly revised. Less archers assault the fort now, and the Hit Points and/or the Attack Points of the three main enemy commanders have been decreased. Player one’s archers and onagers have had their Hit Points marginally increased. On hard difficulty, Wardrick should now be beatable, appearing with less AP but a little more HP than on moderate.
